Documentary

This project was built around a vlog-style documentary about Yannick’s visit to a boxing gym in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

The gym plays an important role in the local community by giving children and young people a safe place to train, build discipline, stay active, and avoid dangerous paths such as crime, drugs, and street violence.

The goal of the video was to show the reality of life in the township without turning it into poverty content. The story needed to feel honest, human, and grounded — showing both the difficulty of the environment and the strength of the people trying to create something better inside it.

Yannick’s role in the story was not only to visit the gym, but to help it directly by offering new training equipment and using the video to call the wider community to support the project.

Content Planning

Because the footage was filmed by the client, our role was to find the strongest narrative inside the raw material.

The story was shaped around three main ideas: the reality of living in Khayelitsha, the importance of the boxing gym for the children, and Yannick’s personal effort to support the space and bring attention to its mission.

The edit needed to balance emotion, awareness, and action. It could not feel too polished or disconnected from reality, but it also needed a clear structure that guided the viewer through the experience.

The goal was to make the audience understand why this gym matters — not just as a sports space, but as a place of protection, discipline, hope, and community.

Post-Production

The full documentary was built in post-production using client-provided footage.

The edit focused on creating a strong emotional arc, starting with the context of the township and moving into the role of the gym, the children training, the challenges faced by the community, and Yannick’s contribution through the donation of new equipment.

The pacing was designed to feel natural and immersive, keeping the vlog feeling alive while giving the story enough structure to make the message clear.

The final video used the available footage to build a documentary-style narrative that felt raw, personal, and meaningful.

Results

The final video became a human-centered documentary piece about community, sport, and the importance of giving young people safer alternatives.

By turning client-provided footage into a structured story, the video helped communicate the impact of the boxing gym and created a clear call for support from the wider community.

The result was a piece that went beyond a simple travel vlog. It became a story about resilience, responsibility, and the power of local spaces that protect children from the realities around them.
